パラミツ（ジャックフルーツ，ナガミパンノキ）
３５kg以上の果実ができるので有名なパラミツの実がなり始めました。長さ１５から２０cmのものが目につきます。以前に３０cmになった事があります。その時には解体ショーならぬ入館された方への試食会も催されました。味はゴムのような香りがあるものの好みにもよりますが、ドリアンよりはましな香りでした。雄花は枝の先に着きますが、雌花は幹につく所謂幹生花でしっかりとした幹でなければ果実を支え切れません。花は果実に似ていて薄緑〜黄色、雌花は雄花より大きいです。東南アジアでの受粉はハリナシバチや風によると観察されています。果実が幹になる状態を幹生果と呼びます。パラミツは漢字で書くと波羅蜜で、サンスクリット語由来です。木材は寺院の柱に、仏僧の袈裟を染めたり、生食のほかにジャムにされたりします。生活に密着している樹木であるのは同属のパンノキ(Artocarpus altilis)に似ています。

Jackfruit (A.heterophyllus) is believed to have originated in the southwestern rain forests of the West Ghats in India. Jackfruit and breadtree (A.altilis) are cultivated throughout the tropics. Flowers of jackfruit is light green to yellow and female flower is larger than male one. Jackfruit is reported pollinated by stingless bee (Tetragonula iridipennis ) and wind. Fruit is the largest tree borne fruits reaching as much as 35kg, 90cm in length. Fruits are found at food markets throughout Southeast Asia. At Sakuya Konohana Kan fruits are now 15 to 20 cm in lengh.
